Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

I am private pay only. As a clinician, my approach is to assess and understand the individual as a whole within their unique environmental context, and I am committed to providing support tailored to your current position and needs. This type of tailored therapeutic intervention is not supported within the medical model. Insurance policies often do not support ongoing maintenance care or comprehensive skills development planning.

What is Neurodivergent Affirming Care?

Neurodivergent-affirming care is a therapeutic approach that fosters an understanding of neurodivergence. It supports individuals by addressing their challenges and needs, viewing neurodivergence as a distinct identity rather than a flaw. The goal is to empower individuals to leverage their strengths and navigate difficulties through tailored accommodations. Unlike past practices that aimed for conformity to neurotypical standards, this modern approach focuses on support and skill development, enabling neurodivergent individuals to thrive authentically.

What do you share about sessions with my child?

Child therapy privacy is a fundamental aspect of the therapeutic process, ensuring that young clients feel safe and secure while exploring their thoughts and emotions. Therapists adhere to strict confidentiality protocols, protecting sensitive information shared during sessions. This privacy fosters trust, allowing children to express themselves freely without fear of judgment or unwanted disclosure. Parents and guardians are made aware of the limits of confidentiality, ensuring transparency while prioritizing the child's well-being. Ultimately, safeguarding privacy in child therapy not only supports mental health but also builds a strong foundation for healing and personal growth. I share with parents overall themes that we are working through and will review skills to implement at home to support your child or teen.

Can you help me with IEP/504 plans?

My prior experience working on an interdisciplinary team, coupled with my familiarity with the educational system, equips me with valuable insights for effectively advocating for your child's needs within that framework. I am well-positioned to recommend appropriate accommodations, assist with precise language, and provide guidance on navigating IEP meetings, requests, and communication strategies. I will hold your hand and walk you through how to get the support you need through the school system and diagnosis.

My child doesn’t have a formal diagnosis yet, can you help me understand the process and if you think a diagnosis is needed?

As a social worker with a background in autism research diagnostics, I am able to offer diagnostic assessments. However, for services related to educational system support or financial assistance, a formal evaluation conducted by a licensed psychologist will be necessary. I would be happy to share my assessment and provide recommendations for reputable and qualified psychologists. Additionally, I can initiate supportive services for your child and any challenges they may be facing before a formal diagnosis is obtained. I have several neuroaffirming psychologists that I can connect you with for these purposes.
